This Code of Conduct is an unsigned agreement between the Parent, Carer, Visitor and Skegness Junior Academy.

At Skegness Junior Academy we are very proud and fortunate to have a very dedicated and supportive school community.  At our academy the staff, Academy Council members, parents and carers all recognise that the education of our children is a partnership between us.

We expect our school community to respect our academy ethos, help keep our academy tidy, set a good example of their own behaviour both on premises and if/when accompanying classes on off site visits.

Skegness Junior Academy expects parents and carers to-

• Respect the caring ethos of the school
• Understand that parents and teachers need to work together for the benefit of children
• Demonstrate in their own behaviour that all members of the school community should be treated with respect and understand that even if there is conflict due to any reason, parents must remain calm and respectful
• Approach academy staff to help resolve issues
• Work with the academy to build relationships with its staff
• Know that children cannot be moved on request of the parent
• Seek to clarify a child’s version of events with the school’s view in order to bring about a peaceful solution to any issue
• Correct their own child’s behaviour, especially where it could lead to conflict
• Park outside of the academy in a respectful manner with consideration to other users of the road and safety being paramount.

In order to continue with a calm and peaceful environment, the academy does not tolerate-

• Disruptive behaviour which interferes or threatens to interfere with the operation of a classroom, office or other area of school grounds
• Loud or offensive language, swearing, cursing or displaying temper
• Threatening to do actual bodily harm to a member of academy staff, AAC member, visitor, parent/carer or pupil
• Damaging or destroying academy property
• Sending abusive or threatening emails, text/voicemail/phone messages or other written communication
• Defamatory, offensive or derogatory comments regarding the school or any of the pupils/parents/staff at the academy on facebook or other social media sites
• The use of physical aggression towards another adult or child. This includes physically punishing your own child on school premises
• Chastising someone else’s child.
• Smoking, or consuming alcohol or drugs whilst on academy property

What happens if someone ignores or breaks the code?

If any of these behaviours occur the academy may contact the appropriate authorities for advice and if necessary, ban the offending adult from entering the grounds. We are committed to resolving difficulties in a constructive manner, through an open and positive dialogue. However, we understand that everyday misunderstandings can cause frustrations and have a negative impact on our relationships. Where issues arise or misconceptions take place, please contact your child’s teacher who will be available to meet with you and go through the issue and hopefully resolve it. Where issues remain unresolved, please follow the academy’s complaints procedure. This is available on the academy website or a copy can be requested from the school office.

Issues of conduct with the use of Social Media Most people take part in online activities and social media. It’s fun, interesting and keeps us connected.

  Within these spaces however we ask that you use common sense when discussing academy life online. We take the misuse of social media by parents/carers very seriously

‘Think before you post’ We ask that social media, whether public or private, should not be used to fuel campaigns and voice complaints against the school, school staff, parents or children. Social media should not be used as a medium to air any concerns or grievances.

Online activity which we consider inappropriate:

• Identifying or posting images/videos of children other than your own

• Abusive or personal comments about staff, AAC members, children or other parents
• Bringing the school in disrepute
• Posting defamatory or libellous comments
• Emails circulated or sent directly with abusive or personal comments about staff or children
• Using social media to publicly challenge academy policies or discuss issues about individual children or members of staff
• Threatening behaviour, such as verbally intimidating staff, or using bad language.
• At Skegness Junior Academy, we take our safeguarding responsibilities seriously and will deal with any reported incidents appropriately in line with the actions outlined above.  We would expect parents/carers to remove inappropriate material immediately. In serious cases the academy will consider legal options if appropriate.
